About us

Where stories become bridges to understanding

My story

I’ve always felt the world deeply. As a child, I found myself stirred by society’s complexities and the inherent challenges of being human in systems not designed for our emotional wellbeing. This sensitivity became both my challenge and my greatest gift.

My journey to The Literary Forest has been winding and purposeful. It began with a young person’s earnest desire to “help” others – volunteering throughout high school, studying International Development, and eventually earning a Master of Arts in Applied Anthropology, Community & Youth Work. During my graduate work, I specialized in the ethical considerations of digital engagement with young people – exploring how online interactions affect wellbeing long before it became a mainstream concern. Most recently, after more than a decade working in the non-profit sector both in Toronto and internationally, I received my Emotional Health Practitioner certification through Trent University.

But parallel with my formal education runs a deeper current: my own healing journey. I’ve navigated trauma, patterns of emotional disconnection that started early and ran deep, and the weight of oppressive systems. I’ve worked to transform my coping mechanisms – anxiety, dissociation, addiction – into understanding and resilience. This personal work has taught me that emotional wellbeing isn’t something most of us were taught; it’s something we must deliberately learn and practice.

My Roots & Perspective

I live and work on stolen land as a settler on Turtle Island. My mixed-race identity connects me to both Caribbean and European ancestry, and I continue to deepen my relationship with my Afro-Caribbean lineage – a powerful heritage that teaches and guides me.

This tapestry of experiences has led me to what I now call the “cozy revolution” – the radical act of soothing our nervous systems and developing relational skills with ourselves and others. I believe that emotional well-being forms the foundation from which we can collectively imagine and create the world we truly want to live in.

How This Work Emerged

The Literary Forest emerges from this belief. What began with books evolved when I realized that every story we consume is literally changing our brains – usually without us knowing it. Here, I offer a space where stories become bridges to understanding, where thoughtful media consumption becomes a revolutionary act of self-compassion, and where transformation happens one choice at a time.

My work has evolved from that early desire to “help” into something far more meaningful: a commitment to walking alongside others on their journeys. I’m not a guide who has arrived at some perfect destination. I’m a fellow traveler who has mapped certain territories and found some helpful tools along the way. I bring both my professional training and lived experience to our work together, creating a space where your story matters and your journey toward wellbeing is honoured.

What I’m consistently seeing: people feel immediate relief from being truly seen and heard, then finding resources that resonate with exactly what they’ve shared.

Our Approach

We consume countless stories daily, usually without awareness. I help you choose media that serves your wellbeing.

Stories and media become strategic tools for understanding your emotional landscape and nervous system patterns

Your curiosity is honoured with thoughtfully chosen resources that support self-discovery and nervous system repair

Transformation happens at your own pace, in your own way, through practices that actually resonate with your life

Questions you might have

What is literary wellness?

Literary wellness uses carefully chosen stories and media as tools for personal growth and emotional wellbeing. Through personalized matching and guided exploration, I help you develop deeper self-understanding and sustainable practices for emotional regulation.

How is Wonder Compass different from other recommendation services?

Instead of algorithms, you get a real human who reads your story and spends hours researching your perfect matches. I’m looking for resources that resonate with who you are right now – your questions, your mood, your current chapter – not just what you’ve consumed before.

How is this different from therapy?

While therapy often focuses on managing symptoms through ongoing support, my approach helps you develop your own tools for understanding and transformation. Our work is often therapeutic, however this is not providing mental health treatment. I maintain a strong referral network for clinical support when needed.

Do I need to be an avid reader?

Not at all! Whether you read one poem a year or consume content constantly, your relationship with stories is welcome here. The kind of matchmaking I do extends far beyond just novels. Many people come feeling overwhelmed by endless recommendations that don’t fit – I help you find what actually resonates.

What if I share something really personal in my Wonder Compass?

I’m honoured to witness whatever you choose to share, and I’ll match you with resources that speak to that. You are welcome to stay anonymous. The highest standards of confidentiality will be held. There’s something powerful about being truly seen and then finding stories that reflect your experience back to you.

How do you choose my matches?

I read every word of your submission, then spend hours researching and curating based on your specific story, mood, and curiosities. Each recommendation comes with personal notes about why I chose it for you. It’s literary and media matchmaking, a long shot from algorithmic guessing.
